I purchased this new – a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. It was a reward – to myself – for building up my business from scratch. It was one of the most rewarding jobs during my business career. I was an Independent Manufacturer’s Rep working on straight commission. I covered six states: Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas. My normal schedule was to be in the office one week and in the field one week. When I was on the road – I would leave on Sunday and get back late Friday night. This Jeep kept me going and I never had one problem with it – it was reliable and dependable at every turn.
One of the drawbacks was that I had to stop to make phone calls – I used Rest Areas, Service Station Phone Booths, and Hotel/Motel Phone Banks. I really treated myself when I got a phone installed in the Jeep – it was certainly a game changer!
I just can’t make the decision to get rid of it – it mainly sits in the driveway. We use it primarily as a Pack Mule on occasions. I had it serviced a couple of weeks ago – they told me that it was in really good shape. It has 146,000 miles on it now. I don’t think it would bring much money in a sale so I will just keep it – taking it out for a spin occasionally just like an Old War Horse.
A tale of love
